What if autodiscover does not configure my account?
If you are located behind an ISA firewall, you may encounter an error when autodiscover attempts to contact the server to retrieve account settings:
An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection.
Microsoft has released a hotfix for Outlook 2007 which should correct this. If you have updated Office with the most recent Service Pack, you should already have this fix installed and may need to manually configure Outlook. You can find additional information on the fix and download it by clicking on the link at the
top of the page
.
Manually configure Outlook 2007
If the hotfix still does not allow autodiscover to configure your account, you can manually setup your account in Outlook 2007:
Check the
Manually configure server settings or additional server types
box and click
Next
.
Select
Microsoft Exchange
and click
Next
.
Fill in the required information for the Exchange server and your account:
Microsoft exchange server: ex-mailbox-01.win.duke.edu
User Name: NetID
Click on
More Settings
.
Select the
Security
tab and make sure the box is checked to
Encrypt data between Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Exchange
.
Select the
Connection
tab, check the box to
Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP
and click on
Exchange Proxy Settings...
In the
Connection settings
enter the following:
For the URL
https://
enter
exchange.oit.duke.edu
Select
Connect using SSL only
if it is not already.
Select
Only connect using proxy servers
... and enter
msstd:exchange.oit.duke.edu
Select the box labeled
On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP
.
Basic Authentication
should already be selected.
Click
OK
and then
Finish
. Your account is configured and you should be able to connect to your Exchange account when you open Outlook. When you are prompted for your password, be sure you use your WIN\NetID for the username and your NetID password.
You will receive a
Security Alert
to accept the settings from the server exchange.oit.duke.edu. Click
Allow
.
You will be asked to authenticate and should enter
WIN\
NetID
and your
NetID Password
.
The account settings are retrieved from the Exchange server, so there are no additional configuration steps. You should see a screen indicating that the configuration is complete. If you receive any errors during this setup, please contact your IT support or see the manual configuration instructions above.
When you click
Finish
, you may see a message regarding mail delivery location. If you do, simply click
OK
and continue.
You should then see your new Exchange account listed in the Account Settings window.
NOTE
: If you have several accounts configured in Outlook 2007, you may select which account is your default by highlighting it and clicking Set as Default.
You are now done configuring your account! When you next open Outlook 2007, you may be asked for your password to connect to the Exchange server.
NOTE
: Any time Outlook prompts for your Username for authentication, enter it in the format WIN\NetID.
